Life Decisions and Changes…Maybe It’s Time
I’ve just about made up my mind to eventually move closer to family after I recuperate from the AAA surgery. I should know the surgery date after I see my cardiologist and surgeon in September. Probably won’t be scheduled before the end of that month. I like my condo but think it’s probably time to sell it and get a one story ground floor apartment….I am, after all, eighty years old!
Some states are more “senior friendly” than others I’ve found. My three girls live in three different states. Middle daughter lives in PA, a senior friendly state….with no state income taxes on retirement income: Social Security, company pensions, retirement IRA’s, etc. also offers free public and discounted rail transportation. But the selling point is that there are apartments and condominiums within walking distance of middle daughter’s home. We looked at them when I was there in June…..expensive but quite nice. And I loved shopping in Philadelphia…..at the old Wanamaker’s … Philadelphia’s first department store. They had VERY big hats!
I tried them on but didn’t buy one.In the meantime, I’ve been in a clean out the closets frenzy coupled with the desire to “unclutter” the rest of my place. My master bath was redone and lots of painting was completed too (except for 2 rooms). It’s looking nice…..so nice I may not want to sell it!
Here are some photos…..may use them if I decide to sell….who knows?
My “uncluttered” kitchen is so much nicer plus finally got the work done in the master bathroom…new flooring, new double vanity and lavatories and hardware and finally new towels, etc.
I think every woman should be given a shower with new towels and throw rugs, etc. for kitchens and bathrooms about every ten years or so.

Oh, I love that idea of a shower every 10 years or so! What fun that would be for decade birthdays, for example! Good luck on your decision!
Good luck with the decluttering. I could use a shower. Wonder if you can throw one for yourself? Your kitchen is very pretty.
Sounds like a plan! I’ve got time coming so I’ll plan on being there at least for the first couple of weeks post surgery – provided you are home…
@slmret - Thanks for the good wishes….and maybe somebody will get Hallmark or a big store like Sears or Penny’s or Target to push the idea of linen or towel showers for people every 10 years.
@ata_grandma - Don’t know why people shouldn’t throw one for themselves for their b’day or anniversary….My used towels will get a home with grandkids, etc.
@murisopsis - Looking forward to seeing you but not looking forward for the surgery! BTW, does that dark brown coat I gave you (zippered faux suede…side zippers) fit or too big now? I’ll take it back if the latter.
It is a lovely hat and Philadelphia is a nice city. I say go for it!
@christao408 - Thanks for the encouragement, Chris….I needed it. I should’ve bought that hat I think!
You have a fabulous hat collection and are lucky to have supportive daughters. Philly is a cool town – but ya gotta become an Iggles [Eagles] fan!! Living downtown is great and you MUST get season tickets to the Philadelphia Symphony in their fabulous new [relatively] hall.
Did you post a picture of the bathroom too Joyce? I love the hat and I love the kitchen. I think you are so wise in wanting to be near the children after the surgery. I am sure they would want you to be there too, just so they feel comfortable with the closeness of you being there. I wish you all the best with the surgery.
@ZSA_MD - @ZSA_MD - It was actually middle daughter’s idea….Val said her sister had been “lobbying” for me to move closer, ha. The community IS really lovely and apartments very, very nice. I think I’d be happy there but would miss my friends. But nowadays it’s easier to stay in touch. I didn’t post a photo of my bathroom but maybe will since I had mentioned redoing it.
