  • Spring Has Sprung

Ahhh….”Sprig has sprug, de grass is rizz, I wudder where doze posies is?” was always repeated between sneezes at home each spring when the back yard became alive again and our noses had stopped up. Dad would say that little poem, and I always managed to laugh at our allergies and love spring in spite of the pollen that came with it.

We always had lots of flowers when living with Grandma Bessie during “The Great Depression” and WW 2. Grandma could grow anything…even plants from orange and grapefruit seeds. Later mom and dad had lots of lovely flowers too. I missed the lilacs, so last year I got some planted and this year got myself a digital camera on sale. Here are pictures of my first 2 bouquets. Grandma would be proud of me. Love those lilacs!

  • Looks beautiful! I always think of Grandma Tena when I see bouquets of lilacs. Her friend Roy, (the Japanese man that Grandpa went to the Reservation with) always brought her a huge arm load of lilaces and she would put them all over the apartment and later the condo… She sure did love purple… I’m jealous of your daffodils. I got 1 and it was here and gone (the cold got it).

Those in the photo are the mini daffodils. They were profuse and bushy little things. I did have some regular sized ones too but am fond of the little ones. I remember G’ma Tena’s love of all shades of purple and lavender.

  • beautiful flowers, i like the daffodils especially.

  • Lovely flowers along with such fond memories. Spring is definitely here along with the sniffles that sometimes go with it. I guess we all have to take the bad with the good.
